For a moment I held the afterglow
It soaked through my hands and my chest
A mournful goodbye to a night
That would not tolerate rest
Sleep would have liked to consume me
And torment my time to be sane
Storms twisting and eyes in the distance
Are the inhabitants of my slumbering brain
The pillows and bedsheets pity me
My pulse grows weaker each day
The comforting glow before morning
Will scare all my demons away
Perhaps I deserve all this trouble
Perhaps everything will be fine
But even if sleep's not the gift for me
The afterglow will always be mine
